Doctor of Arts in Ecological Psychology with a Specialization in Regenerative Coaching

Regenerating different narratives to bring in new behavior and practices.

ABOUT

Students who select the Specialization in Regenerative Coaching complete the Doctor of Arts degree curriculum.

The DA Capstone project in this specialization will focus on ecological psychology regenerative coaching as taught through VGI’s ecological psychology and environmental humanities programs.

The DA curriculum has a strong ecological literacy and psychological/social focus that teaches a deep understanding of human narratives, intra-active behavior, emotional understanding, and relationality. Students gain skills and capability to collaboratively navigate challenges and conflicts inherent in all human ecologies.

While developing ecopsychological skills necessary to work with various kinds of human ecologies are not offered in other coaching programs, they are crucial for effective ecopsychological regenerative coaching. Viridis requires our graduates to be well-trained to work with others within their chosen profession, including coaching.

At Viridis, regenerative coaching fits naturally in the professional study of ecological psychology and the work of reconfiguring narratives and their detrimental behaviors and practices that obstruct the flourishing of all nonhuman and human ecologies.

The word “coach” comes from the 15th-century Hungarian village of Kocs, where the carriage (kocsi) was invented to transport people smoothly to their destinations. The initial idea was “to carry”; it later evolved into a metaphor positioning the coach as someone who facilitates, guides, or transports a person from where they are to where they want to be.

A doctoral student in this specialization applies ecological psychology processes as a methodology and practice to educate and facilitate narrative transformation in their capacity as an ecopsychological coach. As such, they help to transport a person, group or organization from where they are to where they want to be.
